Like most allotment sites, the 12 acre site our plot is on relies largely on plot holders volunteering to help out with mowing paths, trimming hedges, coppicing and general tidying. The advantage of helping out is usually being let off the £10 annual maintenance fee but there is also a lot to be said for being around to chat to the site manager in person rather than leaving messages or sending emails.
