All The Queen's Horses
We didn't watch any of the Jubilee coverage during the day yesterday - being English, and having a houseguest to entertain, we very English-ly decided to go out and do Things in the horizontal drizzle instead.
We did, however, watch 'All The Queen's Horses' on ITV yesterday evening after enjoying a well-earned roast chicken dinner.
Oh my.
I grew up around horses, spent years in the company of those who love them, live with and work with them. My paternal grandfather drove Suffolk Punch ploughhorses, my maternal Aunt is a batshit crazy old reprobate who ran away with the circus (no, really) at the age of 15 and spent several years living with and training their Arab ponies before going on to work on the polo and steeplechase circuits, most of my weekends as a child were spent at horse trials and we lived not far from a Spanish riding school. I have seen hundreds of displays of stunt riding, dressage, cross country brilliance and 'horse whispering' but last night's coverage of this event had me speechless. Talented riders and trainers, beautiful beautiful horses, incredible dancing and music from across the world.
If you didn't watch it, I thoroughly recommend doing so - you don't even have to be particularly fond of horses, as long as you like beauty and good entertainment you'll be glad you watched it!
