21 weeks, and it's a boy!
The 20 week scan was last Friday, and it looks like we're expecting a little boy! So much for my maternal instincts - I've been convinced all along it's a girl. But no - even I could see the boy-bits being clearly and proudly displayed on the screen. Everything's measuring fine - his head circumference is measuring a little ahead but that's perfectly normal for my family. It's also sodding typical! I wouldn't mind so much if his feet were bigger than normal, but no - it's the head. The largest part and the bit that takes longest to push out...
Oh well.
For the most part I'm still having quite an easy time of it - I do get an achey sort of pain across the front of my lower belly and my lower back if I walk too fast for too long, and the hip pain if I stand up for too long, but apart from that most things are fine.
What is lovely is that I can feel the baby kicking more and more often these days - he starts off around 9.30 most mornings, has another little flail at 11, a bit of a bounce around 3 and then again in the evening between 7 and 10ish.
Less lovely is that I think I need to go bra shopping again. The girls are doing their best to escape from an F cup and I'd rather they didn't succeed. Annoyingly most maternity bras are full cup whereas most maternity tops seem to be low cut or V-neck. Maternity clothing designers really need to get it together...

Your baby now weighs about 360g and is about 27cm long. Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed, and he can now blink. If you’re having a boy, testes will descend from the pelvis into the scrotum in the coming weeks.
Your baby can now hear your conversations. If you talk, read, or sing to your baby, expect him to hear you. You could try your own little experiment. Some people think that newborns respond when read to from a book they heard frequently in the uterus (womb). If you want to, pick a book now and read it out loud. Make sure you won't mind reading it over and over once your baby is here. You never know, it may be your baby's favourite bedtime story for a long time after birth!
You're probably feeling quite comfortable these days. This, in fact, may be the most enjoyable time in your pregnancy. You're not too big yet, and the usual aches and pains associated with pregnancy like nausea, frequent urination, and fatigue are for the most part gone. Relax and enjoy it while you can.
