An update on the work situation. Oh, yeah, and I'm 17 weeks today...
After Monday's charmless meeting with our HR Director, in which I was informed that an allegation of misconduct had been made against me but that the investigation wouldn't start for at least three weeks because the investigating officer was going on holiday, there have been a couple of changes.
The main one came as a result of a phone conversation between my husband and my line manager in which he, very politely and reasonably, expressed some concerns about the level of undue stress I was being placed under by the way the situation was being handled. As if by magic, the following morning I was informed that in order to make things less difficult for me, she would be removed as investigating officer and someone else would be appointed.
I was also promised that the letter explaining the situation in detail and kicking off the whole process officially would be with me that day (Tuesday).
I was called into my line manager's office at 4.55 in the afternoon, and told that they were trying to get the letter to me and would try to have it with me 'in the next 15 minutes'. I work 9 to 5, had done a full working day on a total of 2 hours sleep, and really didn't want to miss my train. I expressed the opinion that if it was that important that I had the letter that day, they should have prepared and delivered it earlier.
The HR Director then suggested that she could email it to my (non-work, therefore non-secure) personal email address, which I provided, because it was 'very important' that I have the letter that day...
In the end, the letter was placed in my hand as I walked out of the door that evening.
It was not accompanied by a copy of the disciplinary procedure (which contrary to what my line manager had told me is not available on our shared intranet service), or by any written evidence of the allegations made. It simply gives the dates and recipients of two emails stating that the investigation is into the 'probity' of those emails.
I have now received an email from our 'Conciliation and Mediation Manager' letting me know that she has been appointed to support me, and asking to meet with me hinting heavily that this should happen today.
I've agreed, to get it over with, and will be taking a copy of the ACAS 'Code of practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures' with me (thanks Lilith!).
In other news (hah!) I am also 17 weeks pregnant today, which takes me officially into the 4th month of pregnancy. According to http://www.babycentre.co.uk/ :
Your baby is now nearly 11cm long from crown to rump and weighs about 140g. His skeleton is mostly rubbery cartilage, but will start to harden as the weeks go by. A protective substance called myelin slowly begins to wrap around his spinal cord. Sweat glands are starting to develop all over his body. Just as he grows bigger, the umbilical cord, his lifeline to the placenta, is growing stronger and thicker, too.
Your expanding uterus (womb) has shifted your centre of gravity and you've probably been feeling a bit off-kilter. If you like wearing high heels now is the time to err on the side of caution and switch to flat or low-heeled shoes.

Glad I could help! And fair play to your husband for setting your line manager straight!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the updates on baby size and development-do you intend to find out the gender beforehand or are you having a surprise?
